mutual repeated validation

Tomorrow, May 22, we will celebrate at the Lord’s Table. I think this will fit very well with our theme of “validation”. Think about it for a moment.

At the Communion Table Jesus ‘validates’ us.

  • He chooses us ‘for his team’. (chosen – see John 15:16,19, Ephesians 1:4)
  • He says to us, and then backs up his words with loud action! – we are his friends, friends worth dying for – that is validation at the highest level! (“greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” – John 15:13)

But there is, in a sense, a way in which the validation is reciprocal. Each time we come to break bread and drink from the cup, we announce the gospel and our allegiance to our Saviour.

  • do this in remembrance of me” – 1 Corinthians 11:24,25
  • whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” – 1 Corinthians 11:26

I think it is about mutual, repeated validation. God reminds us of his everlasting covenant of love, made through the sacrifice of His son Jesus. How much he values us, how precious is his church.

And we renew our devotion, individually and as a group, by returning to remember and receive.

Ps. Did you get a chance to view this 16 minute video. Take the time, and make sure you follow it to the end. I have had numerous positive responses since I sent it out yesterday. Click here for the link.
